What is the difference between a Western and an Eastern cleanse?

Western Cleanse

A Naturopath, or Western Herbalist, strongly encourages cleanses. If something is wrong with you, immediately a cleanse is recommended.  The idea behind most Western cleanses is to flush the body of toxins. Although this sounds great, it takes a lot of energy to recover from this kind of cleanse.

Why doesn’t the Eastern Herbalist go directly to a cleanse? Because if you have low energy, the cleanse may weaken you , may slow down your healing.

Also when this happens you may blame yourself.  Something is wrong with you. That is why the cleanse did not make you feel like a million dollars.  But it wasn’t you!

Eastern Detox

Eastern Medicine designs a cleanse to not only release toxins but also to strengthen the detox-organs so they are working well, key to helping the the liver, and the kidney healthy.

Eastern Herbalism releases the stuck energy, which is trapping toxins and also weakening body function. This way toxins are released in a very healthy way and, at the same time, the body comes out of the cleanse stronger and more capable.

How Long Is The Cleanse?

We typically suggest that you do the cleanse for one week, but you can do it for as little as 2-3 days, and then repeat the next week.  Many people also do it 2-3 days and then repeat it a few weeks later. This detox is actually great to do for a few days every month.

It is advised to always do the cleanse during the two major season shifts of the year: Summer to Fall and Winter to Spring.

Basic Detox Principle according to TCM: In the colder weather longer detoxes are not advised. In the warmer weather, detox can be done often.
