American Ginseng Root:

American Ginseng is widely used to strengthen the immune system, and increase strength and vigor.

American Ginseng is a cool cousin to the warmer Asian Ginsengs. "Cool" in Chinese Herbalism does not mean temperature the way we understand it. It means that the herb is nourishing to the internal moisture of the body (Yin). It is used in much the same way, with the same goals as other ginsengs.

American Ginseng is an adaptogen and an energy tonic. It provides energy, adaptability and increased awareness. It also is greatly appreciated for its ability to enhance endurance. It is cool in nature (yin), as opposed to the Asian varieties that are warm or hot (yang) in nature. The Chinese value our American Ginseng so much that they actually import it to China. It is the Ginseng of choice for the summer months. It is also a Ginseng that is favored by women, or by both men and women if they have “heat” type conditions in the body (insomnia, headaches, hot flashes, high FSH, hypertension, elevated cholesterol, irritability, etc). American Ginseng is a great product to take to recover from deep fatigue.

One similarity that American, Asian, and Siberian ginsengs all share is that each of these herbs is considered to be an adaptogen, a substance that strengthens the body, helping it return to normal when it has been subjected to stress.
