Ingredients in Detail:

Siler root: Siler, also known as Ledebouriella, is helpful in relieving headaches, chills and body aches due to externally contracted wind-cold conditions. It reduces dampness and alleviates pain. It also has an anti-microbial effect and has been shown to inhibit influenza viruses. It has even been used in ancient times as an effective antidote to arsenic poisoning. The Chinese name for Siler is Fang Feng, which translates to “guard against wind”.

Platycodon: Platycodon opens up and disseminates lung energy and expels phlegm. It is used in Medicinal Herb Formulas for cold and coughs. It is very helpful in directing other herbs to the upper regions of the body. It has been shown to lower blood glucose levels and aid in the metabolism of cholesterol.

Scutellaria root: In 1973, 92 wooden tablets were discovered in a 2nd-century AD tomb in northwestern China. Among the herbs listed in prescriptions for various ailments for Scutellaria root. The herb has had a central place in Chinese Herbal Medicine since at least 2,000 years and is one of the main herbs for "hot and damp" conditions, such as dysentery and diarrhea. About 12% of Scutellaria are the flavinoids baicalin and wogoniside. It also contains sterols and benzoic acid. The key actions for "Scut" make it a very useful herb in formulas that produce sedative, antiallergenic, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory effects. Extensive scientific research has shown that Scutellaria produces a clearly marked anti-inflammatory and antiallergenic action. This is due largely to the flavinoids. It also is used to help with venous problems and fragile capillaries. Clinical trails suggest that the use of Scutellaria for high fevers and infections is justified. The herb may also be useful for problems arising from diabetes, including cataracts.

Gardenia fruit: This evergreen shrub plays a significant role in Chinese herbalism. The fruit contains volatile oils, gardenin crocin and geniposide. The oil it also used in perfumes and flavoring for teas. It has been used in Oriental Medicine for at least 2,000years. In the Chinese herbal tradition it is a bitter and cold herb used mostly to relieve symptoms associated with heat. These include fever, irritability, restlessness, insomnia, painful urination, and jaundice – all symptoms of an overheated liver.

Forsythia fruit: Forsythia flowers helps to clear heat and toxins from the body. It is also useful in formulas to dissipating nodules and lumps in the neck. Forsythia fruit has been used in Chinese herbalism for over 4,000 years and is considered to be one of the 50 fundamental herbs. A bitter tasting pungent herb, it has an antiseptic effect. The fruit is a bitter astringent herb that stimulates the heart, nervous system and gall bladder. It contains vitamin P, which is used to strengthen capillaries. The fruit is also antidote, antiphlogistic, antitussive, diuretic, emmenagogue, febrifuge, laxative and tonic. It is used internally in the treatment of acute infectious diseases such as mumps, and also for tonsillitis, urinary tract infections allergic rashes etc. The fruit is harvested when fully ripe and is dried for use in herbal formulas. The plant has a similar action to Lonicera japonica and is usually used in combination with that species to achieve a stronger action. The flowers have a broad-spectrum antibacterial action, inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Shigella dysenteriae, haemolytic streptococcus, Pneumococcus, Bacillus typhi, Mycobacterium tuberculi, etc.

Angelica Dahurica root: Angelica root affects the stomach and lungs. It helps to reduce swelling and alleviate pain. This herb is also used a cold remedies to relieve nasal congestion.

Ligusticum (Chuan Xiong) (Cnidium root) (Chinese Lovage): Ligusticum  Chuan Xiong) (Cnidium root) (Chinese Lovage) is one of the primary blood-vitalizing herbs used in Chinese herbalism. Blood-vitalizing herbs improve circulation. Ligusticum has very positive effects on the heart and liver functions. It is also very widely used in treating menstrual disorders because it is so effective at promoting blood flow and relieving pain associated with blood and energy stagnation. It is also a good blood tonic. It has recently been recognized as being beneficial to the heart muscle and circulatory system. It significantly improves myocardial circulation and is being used clinically in China to treat and prevent heart disease. Ligiusticum is also widely used to relieve the pain associated with rhematism and arthritis and in formulas that are used for colds, flu, sinus congestion and various skin disorders.

Coix seed: Coix seed, also known as Job's Tears, in a general health tonic, primarily benefiting the skin, lungs, and spleen. It improves the flow of water throughout the body, which assists in eliminating water stagnancy, abdominal bloating and excessive water weight. Coix seed is also used in the Orient for arthritis and rheumatism, since these health conditions are associated with excess body moisture. Coix is also considered to be very nourishing to the skin and is said to make the skin soft and smooth. It is also believed that Coix helps in reducing moles and to eliminate warts and blemishes. Scientific research has also shown that Coix contains an anti-tumor agent that may be helpful in the treatment of cancer, and in particular skin cancer. It has also been shown to have anti-viral activity.

Mentha: Mentha, or mint herb, calms the emotions and addresses gynecological problems by soothing the liver and eliminating constraint brought about by stress.It also has an affinity for the lungs. It is an important ingredient in formulas for colds with headache and sore throat.Mint is an herb belonging to the labiatae family, specifically mentha haplocalyx Briq. It consists of a squarish stem and elliptical, scaled leaves. Both the leaves and stem are covered with tiny white hairs. The plant has an aromatic odor and an acrid taste. Both the leaves and stem are used in herbal preparations, as is mint oil. Mint oil contains dozens of chemicals, acids and compounds, including leucine, menthol and aspartic acid. Together, these substances are responsible for many of mint’s healing properties. Studies have shown that mint can inhibit bacteria such as staphylococcus aureus, staphylococcus albus and streptococcus, and viruses such as herpes simplex and vaccinia. Other research shows that it facilitates the flow of mucus in the trachea, and can improve the absorption rates of salicylic acid (the main ingredient in aspirin). In traditional Chinese medicine, mint is considered to have pungent, aromatic and cool properties. It is associated with the Lung and Liver meridians, and is used to expel wind heat, clear the head and eyes, clear up rashes, and remove liver qi stagnation. Taken orally, mint is used to treat diarrhea and painful menstruation, promote perspiration and dissipate body heat. It is also taken as a means of stimulating the nervous system. In addition, the German Commission E has approved the internal use of mint oil for a variety of conditions, including flatulence, gastrointestinal and gallbladder disorders, and catarrhs of the upper respiratory tract, and external use for myalgia and neuralgia.

Licorice root: Licorice root has more detoxifying agents that any other substance in the world. It has the ability to rid the body of more than 600 toxins without any detrimental side effects.
